Evil Sudoku

The cruellest boards we deal — minimal clues, maximal chains. "Evil" (sometimes called very hard or diabolical) demands the advanced techniques most solvers never learn.

What "evil" really means

Evil Sudoku is our Expert tier under a name you'll recognise from other sites. With as few as 22–24 clues, singles and pairs run out quickly. To break through you'll lean on X-Wings, Swordfish and XY-Wings — coordinated eliminations across multiple rows and columns at once.

Is evil Sudoku the same as expert?

Yes — different sites use different names for the top tier. On Playoku, Expert and Evil are the same difficulty (level 3). Whichever you search for, you'll get the hardest logic-solvable boards we generate.

Stuck on an evil board?

When a board defeats you, paste it into the step-by-step solver. It names each technique as it applies it — so an evil puzzle becomes a lesson, not a wall.

How to play Sudoku on Playoku

Sudoku is a logic number puzzle played on a grid divided into boxes. Fill every empty cell so that each row, each column and each box contains every digit exactly once — 1 to 9 on the classic 9×9 grid, 1 to 4 on a 4×4 grid, and 1 to 6 on a 6×6 grid. Every puzzle on Playoku has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic alone, with no guessing required.
